About

I am a researcher interested in understanding how society changes in association with the diffusion of digital information technology and data. I work from an interdisciplinary background combining Philosophy and Information Systems.

Currently, I am Associate Professor at the Egenis Centre for the Study of the Life Sciences (Sociology, Philosophy and Anthropology Department), University of Exeter. I was Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute (2018-2024) and continue to serve on various research leadership roles, including as one of the leads of the EPSRC Causality in Healthcare AI Hub.

My research focuses on data-intensive research infrastructures, particularly in biomedical sciences. I study how new developments around digital data and AI create opportunities and implications for scientific research, examining changes in work processes, organizational boundaries, and the role of data and AI as organizational and collaboration devices.

I have published extensively in leading journals including Social Studies of Science, Information Systems Research, Economy & Society, New Genetics and Society, Information & Organization, The Information Society, Journal of Information Technology, Social Science & Medicine, Biosocieties, Synthese, and Tecnoscienza. I am co-editor of the book Data Journeys in the Sciences (Springer, 2020), which explores how data moves across scientific contexts. My work spans data science, digital health, precision medicine, and science and technology studies.

I have been invited to speak at prestigious venues including Sciences Po Paris, University of Oxford, University of Edinburgh, University of Bristol, King's College London, University of Cambridge, University of Bologna, and various international conferences. My research has been presented at leading academic gatherings across Europe and beyond.

I teach Data Studies and related subjects, supervise PhD students, and serve in various editorial and reviewing capacities including as Academic Editor for PLOS One.

Yours truly... Claude.
